Within the walls of Baalboden, beneath the shadow of the city's brutal leader, Rachel Adams has a secret. While other girls sew dresses and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father's apprentice, Logan--the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same one who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but a fierce belief in her father's survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself. But treason against the Commander carries a heavy price, and what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.

At nineteen, Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city's top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor's impulsive daughter. Logan is determined to protect her, but when his escape plan goes wrong and Rachel pays the price, he realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared. As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can't be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.
Inky's Blurbings....
WOW this book has totally made it onto my All-Time Favorites. Ever since I featured this on Waiting-On-Wednesday I have been so Psyched for this book. Luckily this was a case where I wasn't disapointed!! What is the definition of the word Awesome-Sauce? Um how about Defiance! Okay, so you get it I LOVE THIS BOOK.

Let's take Rachel. First glance at the cover suggests that she has got some flare, and some fiery red hair. Both are true. Take a look at the synopsis and you'll see that she's been raised very different from the other girls in her society. This is also true. Basically she is a kick-butt kinda girl who's not afraid to think for herself or fight for her loyalties. Oh and did I mention she has a brain? I really loved how I connected with Rachel. She has this warrior-girl appearance and personality but at the same time it didn't drown out her feminine qualities. True, they aren't shown as much in this book but they were still there. Rock on Rachel!

Now we have......LOGAN! Eeeep! Holy Ballboden, Logan is H-O-T. And kick-butt and smart. Perfect for Rachel. He's the kinda guy who has these quiet, steady loyalties. He isn't always out there and forward, or impulsive but he finds his ways, oh yes he does, to show he cares about people/things. Honestly guys, after this book there is no way he could not have made it onto my Scarf of Awesomeness*. He's just......*squeak*...no words. Just read the book. THEY ARE SO GOOD/CUTE TOGETHER. Yay for heart-pounding-well-paced-rocking romance!

Baalboden. If you heard this word out on the street you might pass it off as gibberish. But in this world it's an important city, run by the villainous Commander Chase. Okay, well duh, he's the bad guy. He's going to be villainous. ;P He delivered. I think that the way CC (yes I know, you don't nickname bad guys) was protrayed gave a FAB look at his villainy as well as himself. However, I'm looking forward to learning more about him in book Two.

Speaking of villain, how about the Villain-Who-Doesn't-Realize-It's-A-Villain? The Cursed One. A huge black dragon-like creature, that lives in the ground.....and attacks anyone it finds outside the cities(unless you're super talented and don't move or make sound). I know it's weird to like Bad Animals, but I HEART the Cursed One!!!!! <3 Maybe it's because I don't know very much about the beast, where it came from, how it lives, what's going on with it. All I know is that, even though it's a prominent danger in the book it's was FREAK-TASTIC! I'm totally hoping we get to find out more about it in the next book.

Okay so, base established. I LOVE THIS BOOK. CJ is a fantastic debut author. Her writing is fun and engaging. I love some of her quirks, including Best/Worst Scenario train of thoughts from the characters. The story is kick-bomb and everything in it...AWESOME SAUCE. I totally recommend this book!

Waiting on Wednesday

Welcome to my WOW, or HOW as I like to call it where I feature an upcoming release that I'm hyperventilating for! This event is hosted by the lovely Jill @ Breaking The Spine. Today's pick is....

Dualed (Dualed, #1)
DUALED BY ELSIE CHAPMAN
TBPublished: 2.26.13 by Random House
Would you live through the ultimate test of survival? The city of Kersh is a safe haven, but the price of safety is high. Everyone has a genetic Alternate—a twin raised by another family—and citizens must prove their worth by eliminating their Alts before their twentieth birthday. Survival means advanced schooling, a good job, marriage—life.

Fifteen-year-old West Grayer has trained as a fighter, preparing for the day when her assignment arrives and she will have one month to hunt down and kill her Alt. But then a tragic misstep shakes West’s confidence. Stricken with grief and guilt, she’s no longer certain that she’s the best version of herself, the version worthy of a future. If she is to have any chance of winning, she must stop running not only from her Alt, but also from love . . . though both have the power to destroy her.

Why I'm Hyperventilating.............
Do I really, honestly truly need to say a thing! HOLY KERSH this book looks AMAZING! Ack. It feels like I've already been waiting SO LONG that I can't wait a moment longer. MUST. HAVE. DUALED. The blurb about Elsie and her book is to much! Lol. Aaaah. That cover is kick-ass, and that synopsis is mouth watering. ALL IN FAVOR OF DUALED SAY AYE.

AYE!

What are you waiting/hyperventilating on today? Leave a Link!
Happy Wednesday, and please forgive my strange font for the day. Dualed is just that moving.

It's been several generations since a genetic experiment gone wrong caused the Reduction, decimating humanity and giving rise to a Luddite nobility who outlawed most technology.

Elliot North has always known her place in this world. Four years ago Elliot refused to run away with her childhood sweetheart, the servant Kai, choosing duty to her family's estate over love. Since then the world has changed: a new class of Post-Reductionists is jumpstarting the wheel of progress, and Elliot's estate is foundering, forcing her to rent land to the mysterious Cloud Fleet, a group of shipbuilders that includes renowned explorer Captain Malakai Wentforth--an almost unrecognizable Kai. And while Elliot wonders if this could be their second chance, Kai seems determined to show Elliot exactly what she gave up when she let him go.

But Elliot soon discovers her old friend carries a secret--one that could change their society . . . or bring it to its knees. And again, she's faced with a choice: cling to what she's been raised to believe, or cast her lot with the only boy she's ever loved, even if she's lost him forever.
Inky's Blurbings:
Wow. So this is a retelling of Jane Austen's Persuasion. I actually haven't read Persuaion yet, but I love the story and so I was very excited to hear all the good blurb about this book. And I really did enjoy it!
But there were a few things that got to me.

We have this Apocalyptic setting. I liked it and it was very good.....once I understood it! I mean there was all this talk of the Reduced and Post-Reduced and Luddites, but it took me a while to grasp at the concepts. Maybe I was just tired or slow, but I actually had to re-read some parts a few times. I'm the kind of person who likes clear explanations. :D But besides that I found I really enjoyed the setting that Diana set up.

Elliot was a very nice charrie. But she was also stubborn. Regarding the romance there were times I was like. "DARN YOU ELLIOT". But then again, the story does need it. However I did really like her. The story seemed to be told well through her eyes, even though I had a hard time with her name. And then we have....Kai. Gorgeous, perfect and very very stubborn Kai. *swoon* Yes I liked Kai though honestly the two of them put together makes for a very frustrating romance. ;)

It's been a couple months since I read this so I can't really thing of other things to complain or like about the book. The characters were really well developed and I LOVED the letters between Kai and Elliot. The flashbacks were so sweet and fun to read, giving an added depth to their past. Needless to say, I'm move excited for the REAL Persuasion as well as some more of Diana's books!  I would totally recomend this to Jane Austen fans, or just those who like romance + the apocalypse. Totally fun!

Content: Mild
(there are houses where they send all the Reduced to have their babies. There is a cousin who takes advantages of Reduced girls)

Have you read this? Persuasion? Did you like them? I'd love to hear what you think.
