Deception, how I love thee! Let me count the ways....oh wait too many to count! In all honesty this book was seriously to die for. After loving Defiance to death last year, this book was easily my most anticipated. And boy did Redwine deliver a powerful sequel. My mind is blown. To smithereens. Now floating in the atmosphere...okay you get the picture. Basically my worries about Deception having Second Book Syndrome? Blown to smithereens. Something is seriously wrong with me.

Just as in Defiance, Rachel is seriously kick-all-the-butt. Ha. She's as fierce, loyal and still insanely good with a sword. I loved that her character was still strong, despite all the demons raging within her. Speaking of, oh man. Rachel does go through the wringer emotionally. Just watching the after-affects of Defiance roll in combined with all the ups and downs of Deception? It's tough. It made me feel all the feels for Rachel. But she stayed strong and still kicked all the butt I could have wanted her too. Rachel FTW!
If we're talking character love, I totally cannot forget Logan [aka. my book boyfriend for LIFE]. He's still as ridiculously smart, scientific and swoony as he was in Defiance. Even moreso? He's got his own demons and issues and all the while he's the same voice you know and love! And love some more....
These two characters have the most beautifully broken lives and yet they still work! The romance works! Which brings me to the spot where I happily report that no stupid romance issues pop up! Proof of how un SBS this book is! Rachel and Logan? They just ROCK. And the rest of the cast is phenomenal! They rock so hard. You hate who you're supposed to hate, love who you're supposed to love, pity and sympathize with those who need it and just FEEL with them. It's so vivid. And wonderful.

This book was insanely action-packed. It starts off, starts a chugging and then we are on full speed ahead. Seriously. If yo uthink it's safe? It's not. Don't ever believe your brain. It's intense and the action comes in all shapes and sizes. Which I LOVED. There was variety, but there was never a dull moment! Sure there were downtimes, but there is always something happening to keep you excited and on your toes. And when there's an aura of mystery, she keeps you guessing and re-thinking yourself and the eventually surprising you to the point where you think you were an idiot for not getting it sooner.
Of course with this kind of a book Redwine just has to kill our feels with an ending. An ending so unexpected and insane and yet so full of feels and anticipating and hope that there will be just one more page. An ending that makes you scream and shout with awesomeness. WAAAH. Feels. More feels. And more desperate need for the third book.
So because my brain can't think of anything else to rave about I will wrap this up. I could NOT have asked for a  better sequel. I expected, they were met. And more. And more! C. J. fulfilled the standard of a sequel while keeping it new, fresh and oh so exciting. I am in love with these books and HIGHLY recommend them. Keep your eyes peeled for Deception to hit stores this month and if you still haven't read Defiance? What are you waiting for?

Inky's Blurbings:
Oh my goodness. This was an amazing book. I've been anticipating this windy day romance for-like-EVER, and boy did it live up to my expectations. It was beautiful, engaging, and romantic with a side of swoon. Everything I ask for in a book.

The story is told from the perspective of our dual narrators Vane and Audra. Audra is a sylph, an air elemental who also happens to be Vane's guardian. She's got a pretty broken past, and her character is pretty rough to begin with. And let me just say, I absolutely loved her. Her flaws, her problems, her sarcasm, her strengths. It was so awesome watching her breeze by as she changed and hit walls and began her path to redemption. What's especially cool, at least to me, is the other fact that she's Vanes guardian. FOR ONCE,  it's a girl. Okay, so maybe it's more common then that, but seriously. Audra is a force of nature! Pun intended. Hands down, I loved her.

Vane, our second narrator, is also kind of AWESOME. He starts out on a very different level, and page than Audra, but he's still so amazing! He has to take in a lot of information, and his emotions went back and forth quite a bit. Yet, it worked. Both of the characters share quite the emotional roller coaster and it made them stronger and just endearing in a way. I could totally FEEL them. But back to Vane. He was also, a teensy by hot. Okay a LOT. I loved him. His thoughts cracked me up quite a bit. And with Audra they are the BOMB!!! Or should I say, a TORNADO? Seriously! The romance picks up and there's already been a sort of connection between them and it just grows into something, ahem, swoon worthy. I loved it all.

The story itself is one that isn't very action packed from the start. It's a quiet build that crescendos into an epic finale. So if you're looking for an action packed story, this isn't the one you need. However there is lots of internal conflict and as said, that build of conflict is enough to keep you on your toes. I will tell you that I wasn't officially grabbed until maybe 40% in. I really liked it but when that crescendo hit, I was never gonna be going back again. By the end I was so hooked into the story I couldn't stop. Not to mention It was late at night and I didn't even start to get tired, like I normally do. My whole brain was engaged. And the END. Wow. My heart, shall I say, felt attacked by a whirlwind? More revelations, swoonyness, action and just awesome. I love it. Shannon had a great style of writing, that is unique, while not being overly strange or hard to read. It's quite easy to slip into the shoes of Vaudra. [yes I just gave them a mash name].

So...have we learned anything from this review? I am GONE WITH THE WIND over this book. I don't even know if that pun works but whatever. This book picked me up, I start on a small breezey draft and then I flew into the tornado. It was awesome. Needless to say I am pining for book two. I can't wait 11 months FOR MORE VAUDRA. The ending, while not a cliffhanger was still wrenching in a way. *flails* Okay, I'll shut up now. Bottom Line: GO. READ. THIS. BOOK. Now.

I'm ever-hooked on these books. Everneath was freaking genius and this book was one of the most amazing follow-ups I have Ever. Read. It's well-written, I mean I could hardly put this down to do ANYTHING! The story is super unique and the romance is one gigantic SWOON-FEST! So maybe we should start there because it's so much fun to talk about. :D

I. Love. This. Book. I mean will you look at the freaking premise? Will you SWOON AT THE COVER?! Seriously. This book is gonna enchant you. Maybe even splinter you. And you call splinters, a bad thing. They so don't hurt in this case. 

The world building in this book was insanely good. I was surprised at how well I loved this dark, and I mean DARK retelling. I mean this is Wonderland...but it's not. It's Creepyland. I mean it's vivid, and a very unique twist on the classic fairy-tale. It's completely dark. Like ZOMBIE kinda dark! It was completely thrilling! And just...how do you describe it? There are only so many adjectives in the world. Needless to say, it was very cool to see how she involved the poems like the Jabberwocky that we all know and love (I mean seriously, who doesn't?! It's the funnest poem to say!), and how it was all twisted. 



Alyss was a very interesting narrator. I can't think of anything that draws her away from the crowds of other MC's I've read about, but it's the situation you find her in that sets her apart. I mean bugs talking to you, driving you insane and then finding out you're from this magical land? I thought she handled things really well and was totally portrayed honestly for the situation. No abnormal reactions or stupid choices! And I kinda thought it was neat how she made bug art. I can totally give that too her. Haha. :D Could be a new thing. Dead bug art; Starry Night of Caterpillars...  

My GEEKY FANGIRL MOMENT in this book was when the word SPLINTERED showed up. I kinda love when books do that! I feels so much more meaningful and like...perfect. Every time that happens in a book I'll be like "Meeep!" Or like this on the inside...
